استطاع فريق الأهلي أن يحقق الفوز على اتحاد الشرطة القوي بهدف دون رد للساحر تريكه الذي حل بديلاً في منتصف الشوط الثاني من اللقاء الذي أستحوذ عليه الأهلي بصورة شبه كاملة.
وأضاع مهاجمو الأهلي في البداية فرصة التقدم بعدد وافر من الأهداف خاصة العائد من فترة الغياب دومنيك والذي تعرض لسوء حظ كبير منعه من تحويل أي من الفرص التي سنحت له لأهداف محققة.
ورفض حكم اللقاء شريف رشوان أن يحتسب ضربة جزاء واضحة لحسام عاشور في الشوط الثاني بعد دفع مدافع الشرطة دويدار باليد في ظهر عاشور على مرأى ومسمع الجميع إلا طاقم التحكيم.
كما رفض رشوان احتساب ضربة جزاء لعبدالله السعيد بعد شد مدافع الشرطة حسام عبدالجواد من القميص وهو مالم توضحه اللقطات التليفزيونية وأوضحته صور اللقاء.
كما وضح على الثنائي أحمد فتحي ومحمد ناجي جدو التألق البدني من البداية للنهاية واستطاعا قيادة الفريق في الجانب الدفاعي عن طريق فتحي وفي الجانب الهجومي عن طريق جدو الذي قام بمجهود غير عادي لنقل الفريق بصورة سريعة من الدفاع للهجوم.
وكان النصيب للساحر تريكه الذي غير مجريات اللقاء بنزوله في الشوط الثاني واستطاع إنهاء المباراة بصاروخ يساري في "سقف" شباك الشرطة التي عصيت على مهاجمي الأهلي ليحقق الأهلي الفوز بنقاط المباراة الثلاث لتضعه على مقدمة الدوري مؤقتاً.
